Huawei has presented its AI-driven optical network strategy at the OptiX Club 2026 event, highlighting how artificial intelligence is becoming central to the evolution of telecom infrastructure as global data traffic continues to surge.
The company said increasing demand from cloud computing, 5G services, video streaming, and AI workloads is placing significant pressure on existing optical networks. In response, Huawei is advancing “autonomous optical networks” that operate with minimal human intervention through AI-powered self-configuration, self-optimisation, self-healing, and predictive maintenance.
A major focus of the strategy is the use of AI for predictive fault detection, enabling networks to identify and address potential failures before they affect service. Huawei also demonstrated intelligent traffic management systems that dynamically allocate bandwidth based on real-time demand, improving efficiency and reducing congestion across networks.
The company said these capabilities are especially important in high-demand environments such as data centre interconnects, metro optical networks, and long-haul backbone systems, which are increasingly burdened by data-intensive applications, including generative AI, cloud computing, and real-time analytics.
Huawei also positioned its OptiX portfolio as a key enabler of next-generation digital infrastructure, combining high-capacity optical transmission with AI-based management tools. The company argued that this integration allows operators to reduce operational costs while improving network reliability, scalability, and performance.
Industry stakeholders in attendance discussed the broader shift toward intelligent, automated network systems, noting that optical infrastructure is evolving from traditional hardware-centric models to software-driven, adaptive platforms.
Huawei concluded that AI integration will be critical for future telecom networks, as operators seek to manage exponential data growth while maintaining high service quality and efficiency.
