Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has reported a stronger-than-expected surge in revenue, driven by accelerating global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips and advanced semiconductor technologies powering data centres and high-performance computing systems.
The world’s leading contract chipmaker recorded a 35% year-on-year increase in revenue, outperforming market expectations and underscoring the rapid expansion of AI-driven semiconductor demand.
A company statement highlighted the sustained strength in advanced computing demand, saying:
“We continue to see strong structural demand for AI-related computing and advanced process technologies.”
Analysts also emphasised the scale of the company’s performance, noting:
“TSMC reported first-quarter revenue of $35.71 billion, rising 35% on the year and beating market forecasts on surging interest in artificial intelligence applications.”
The surge was driven by rising orders from major technology firms, including Nvidia, Apple, AMD, Microsoft, and Google, as global investment in AI infrastructure continues to accelerate. Demand for TSMC’s advanced 3-nanometer and 5-nanometer chips remains particularly strong, as these nodes are widely used in AI accelerators and data centre processors.
Industry observers say the results reinforce TSMC’s central role in the global semiconductor landscape, with AI workloads becoming a dominant driver of chip demand across the technology sector.
Despite strong momentum, the company cautioned that broader macroeconomic uncertainties and supply chain risks could still affect future performance.
Overall, the results highlight how the global AI boom continues to reshape the semiconductor industry, positioning TSMC as a key beneficiary of the accelerating shift toward AI-powered computing.
