Wellness, Fitness and Aesthetic Surgery. (WelFAS) A Nigerian digital health company has launched an artificial intelligence‑powered wellness app aimed at helping Nigerians manage their health amid rising rates of overweight and obesity.
The app combines fitness tracking, calorie analysis, AI-driven health insights, and access to certified healthcare professionals. It is designed to help users maintain healthy lifestyles, monitor their diet, and achieve personal fitness goals.
“Our mission is to empower Nigerians to take control of their health every day, rather than waiting for illness to strike,” said Dr Ogbe Omoruyi, Medical Director at Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and founder of WelFAS. “The app is designed to help people improve wellness, fitness, and body goals.”
Health experts note that about one in five Nigerians is now overweight, highlighting a growing public health challenge linked to hypertension, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. Brigadier General Innocent Enwuchola, represented by Colonel Ernest Onuchukwu, said, “WELFAS is not just launching an app; it is introducing a culture of wellness.”
The app allows users to estimate calories by taking photos of meals, receive customised meal plans, track fitness activities, and book virtual consultations with nutritionists and doctors. Developers emphasised that the tool is intended to encourage long-term lifestyle changes rather than quick fixes.
“Weight management should be approached as a long-term lifestyle commitment rather than a short-term effort,” Dr Omoruyi said, adding that the app can help users identify when professional medical care is needed.
The platform is now available for download on both Apple and Android devices, with founders expressing optimism that it will help Nigerians adopt healthier lifestyles and reduce the risks associated with chronic diseases.
