The Global Network for Cybersolution (GNC) has launched the Nigeria Forum for AI Governance (NFAIG), a new initiative to strengthen coordination on artificial intelligence policy, ethical oversight, and regulatory development in Nigeria.
The announcement was made in a statement on May 9, 2026. The organisation said the forum was created to support Nigeria’s evolving artificial intelligence landscape, particularly as the country works toward developing its national artificial intelligence strategy and related policy frameworks.
GNC said the forum is designed to help align Nigeria’s AI governance systems with broader continental and global standards, including frameworks developed by the African Union and ongoing international discussions on artificial intelligence governance.
According to the organisation, the initiative comes at a time when artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing governance, the economy, and public services. It noted that countries are under growing pressure to establish structured policies that address both the opportunities and risks associated with AI technologies.
The Nigeria Forum for AI Governance will focus on strengthening local AI capacity, bridging digital access gaps, and improving ethical oversight in AI deployment. It also aims to support the development of AI systems that reflect local languages and cultural contexts, with an emphasis on inclusive digital growth.
Speaking on the development, the President of GNC, Dr Segun Olugbile, said AI governance requires collaboration across government, industry, academia, and civil society.
He described AI governance as both a technical and ethical responsibility, adding that the forum would provide a platform for stakeholders to develop policies that promote innovation while ensuring safety, accountability, and public benefit.
GNC also stated that the forum will introduce a digital engagement platform to support policy discussions, track innovation, and broaden stakeholder participation within Nigeria’s technology ecosystem. Founded in 2008, GNC focuses on cybersecurity advocacy, digital policy development, and emerging technology governance.
The organisation said the new forum expands its efforts to support responsible digital transformation in Nigeria. The launch reflects growing global attention to artificial intelligence governance, as countries continue to explore regulatory approaches to manage the rapid development and adoption of AI technologies.
