Google revealed on Tuesday a major expansion of its AI capabilities in its Workspace suite, powered by Gemini AI. The update brings smart new features to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, allowing users to generate drafts, presentations, and spreadsheets quickly using data from Gmail, Chat, and Drive.
The goal is to streamline workflows by keeping AI assistance directly inside Google’s apps, reducing the need to toggle between separate tools or chatbots.
One highlight is Docs’ new “Help me create” feature. Users simply describe what they want to make, and Gemini automatically pulls relevant content from Drive, Gmail, and Chat to produce a first draft. For instance, users could request a newsletter based on past meeting notes and upcoming events, and Gemini will assemble a draft tailored to that context.
After a draft is ready, Gemini can also assist in fine-tuning individual sections without rewriting the whole document. The “Help me write” tool allows users to enhance clarity, expand details, or adjust phrasing as needed.
For teams collaborating with varying writing styles, a “Match writing style” function can now harmonise the tone and voice across multiple contributions, ensuring consistency throughout the document.
Docs also introduces “Match the format,” which lets users replicate the style of another document. For example, a preferred travel itinerary template can be automatically populated with your own flight, hotel, and rental car information pulled from your emails.
