The Global Network for Cybersolution (GNC), a cybersecurity and emerging technology advocacy organisation, has announced the establishment of the Nigeria Forum for AI Governance (NFAIG) to support the development of artificial intelligence policy, ethical oversight, and regulatory readiness in Nigeria.
The initiative comes as Nigeria advances toward finalising its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy and preparing related legislation for parliamentary approval. GNC said the forum will help guide the shift from policy formulation to enforceable frameworks while aligning Nigeria’s approach with the African Union Continental AI Strategy and the African Charter on Trustworthy AI.
According to the organisation, artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming economies, governance systems, and public services globally. While AI presents opportunities for growth and innovation, it also introduces risks that require coordinated governance at national, regional, and international levels.
The Nigeria Forum for AI Governance is designed to ensure that Nigeria’s AI policies reflect local needs and priorities while strengthening the country’s participation in global AI governance discussions, including the United Nations Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence.
The forum will focus on three main areas: developing sovereign AI capacity, bridging the digital and AI divide, and strengthening ethical oversight. This includes supporting AI systems that incorporate local languages and cultural contexts, expanding infrastructure and human capacity, and ensuring responsible deployment of AI technologies.
GNC said the initiative aligns with global frameworks such as the Global Digital Compact and the UN’s AI governance dialogue, which brings together governments and stakeholders to promote international cooperation on artificial intelligence.
Speaking on the development, GNC President Segun Olugbile described AI governance as a shared responsibility requiring collaboration across multiple sectors.
“AI governance is not merely a technical challenge; it is a moral and social imperative,” he said. “By establishing this Forum, we are creating a space where ethics, safety, and innovation meet. We invite all stakeholders to help shape a future where AI serves the prosperity and peace of every Nigerian.” Olugbile added.
He further stated that the forum will function as a coordination platform, providing real-time insights, policy briefs, innovation tracking, and engagement opportunities for stakeholders across government, industry, academia, and civil society.

GNC also announced that the initiative will be supported by a digital advocacy platform to enhance communication, policy coordination, and participation in frameworks within Nigeria’s growing AI sector.
The organisation said the launch positions Nigeria to play a stronger role in global AI governance discussions at a time when international cooperation on artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly critical.
