Google has made its Gemini‑powered Canvas in AI Mode broadly available to all users in the United States searching in English. The feature, previously limited to experimental testing in Google Labs, is now integrated directly into Google Search’s AI Mode, turning the search interface into a more capable productivity and creative workspace.
Canvas in AI Mode allows users to plan projects, draft documents, build simple interactive tools and prototypes, and even generate code based on natural‑language descriptions-all without leaving the search results page. Users activate Canvas from the AI Mode tool menu and can iteratively refine content or functionality through follow‑up prompts.
“With Canvas in AI Mode, we’re making Search not just a place to find information, but a space where people can create and experiment with ideas in real time,” said Maria Chen, Google’s VP of AI Products.
Originally launched as part of Google’s Labs experiments, Canvas expands the reach of Gemini’s AI capabilities beyond traditional question‑and‑answer interactions, making Search a creation environment rather than just an information finder.
Google’s move reflects an ongoing strategy to embed advanced AI features directly into its core search product as it competes with other generative AI platforms. The Canvas integration is currently available only in English for U.S. users, with no timeline yet given for wider international or multilingual support.
