The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has announced the signing of frameworks under the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative (NSCI), a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s digital sovereignty and creating a structured environment for cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) investments.
According to NITDA, the newly signed frameworks establish regulatory guidelines, technical standards, and investment roadmaps covering cloud service providers, data centres, AI infrastructure, and government digital assets.
The agency said the initiative is designed to enhance data sovereignty and security, provide regulatory clarity for stakeholders, and support the development of trusted digital infrastructure across the country.
NITDA stated that the framework will help guide future investments in sovereign cloud and AI technologies while supporting Nigeria’s broader digital economy objectives. The agency also noted that the initiative seeks to position Nigeria as a trusted digital hub within Africa by promoting secure and resilient digital services.

The announcement did not introduce a new cloud platform or data centre. Instead, it establishes the policy and governance framework intended to guide the development, deployment, and regulation of cloud and AI-related infrastructure in Nigeria.
NITDA has made the newly signed frameworks available through its official website for stakeholders, businesses, public institutions, and technology providers seeking further details on implementation and compliance requirements.
