Lagos, Abuja, and Rivers State have emerged as Nigeria’s leading centres for corporate adoption of artificial intelligence, as businesses across finance, energy, telecommunications, and public administration accelerate the deployment of AI systems to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and automate operations. “Enterprise AI adoption is now concentrated in Nigeria’s major economic hubs, where infrastructure and corporate activity are strongest.” Industry data and sector reports indicate that enterprise AI adoption in Nigeria is now concentrated in these three regions, driven by stronger digital infrastructure, higher corporate density, and faster technology adoption than in other parts of the country. Lagos remains the dominant…
Google has warned that artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping global cybercrime, with hackers increasingly using AI-powered tools to automate attacks, exploit software vulnerabilities, and bypass security systems at scale. The warning comes from a new report by Google’s Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG), which says AI-enabled hacking activity has expanded significantly in recent months. The company described the trend as a major shift in cybersecurity, raising concern among governments, businesses, and technology experts. “The AI vulnerability race is already underway.” The report states that cybercriminals are now using generative AI systems to write malicious code, detect software weaknesses, develop phishing campaigns,…
A 2026 report by Carpe Diem Solutions Limited has identified persistent financial instability and growing ethical concerns surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) as the main challenges facing Nigerian newsrooms, even as the country records an improved press freedom ranking of 112th out of 180. The report, titled “The Future of Media & PR Collaboration in Nigeria,” was released on May 9, 2026, to mark World Press Freedom Day. It states that funding constraints remain the central operating challenge for most media organisations in Nigeria, with many struggling to sustain operations amid declining and unstable revenue streams. “Funding constraints remain the central…
The Global Network for Cybersolution (GNC), a cybersecurity and emerging technology advocacy organisation, has announced the establishment of the Nigeria Forum for AI Governance (NFAIG) to support the development of artificial intelligence policy, ethical oversight, and regulatory readiness in Nigeria. The initiative comes as Nigeria advances toward finalising its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy and preparing related legislation for parliamentary approval. GNC said the forum will help guide the shift from policy formulation to enforceable frameworks while aligning Nigeria’s approach with the African Union Continental AI Strategy and the African Charter on Trustworthy AI. According to the organisation, artificial intelligence is…

A former Deputy Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Dele Omojuigbe, has called for capacity building for university AI lecturers to ensure the effective integration of artificial intelligence into universities’ academic curricula. Speaking in an exclusive phone interview with AIbase reporter Ugochukwu Levi, Dr Omojuigbe identified several factors militating against the teaching of artificial intelligence in universities across the country, including inadequate human resources, poor capacity building, insufficient funding, and, more worrisome, senility among many lecturers. He charged academic institutions, including universities and related establishments, with focusing more on routine training for younger lecturers who still possess the…
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has expressed renewed concern over the increasing use of artificial intelligence in legal practice, warning that unregulated adoption of the technology could undermine professional ethics, client confidentiality, and the credibility of Nigeria’s justice system. The warning was issued by the Chairman of the NBA Bauchi Branch, Rabiu Garba, during the 2026 Annual Law Week, where legal practitioners gathered to discuss emerging trends in the profession. Garba noted that AI tools are now widely used by lawyers for legal research, document drafting, and case analysis, but stressed that their use without clear regulation poses serious risks.…

In a critical advisory issued through its Computer Emergency Readiness and Response Team (CERRT.NG), the agency disclosed that a new malware strain known as “DeepLoad” is actively targeting Nigerian organisations by exploiting social engineering techniques and AI-enabled evasion tactics.
