A surge of artificial intelligence‑generated videos depicting the Iran conflict has flooded social media platforms in recent days. These videos, created entirely with AI tools rather than captured on the battlefield, have been widely shared and monetised by some creators.
Experts say advanced AI video generators have lowered the technical barriers to producing realistic combat footage. Explosions, missile launches, and battlefield scenes are being fabricated in minutes, making it difficult for viewers to distinguish real from fake.
“AI-generated content is becoming indistinguishable from real footage. People are consuming it as news, which is dangerous,” said Dr Mariam Toure, a digital media analyst.

Platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) have responded by updating monetisation policies. Users who post AI-generated videos without clear labelling risk suspension from Creator Revenue Sharing programmes, with repeat violations potentially resulting in permanent exclusion.
“Ensuring access to authentic information during wartime is critical. Modern AI tools make it trivial to create content that can mislead people,” said Nikita Bier, head of product at X.
Despite platform interventions, AI-generated misinformation continues to spread. X reported dismantling a network of 31 accounts posting synthetic war videos under the guise of independent sources.
Verification efforts also revealed fabricated satellite imagery falsely depicting war damage. Experts warn that the rapid pace of AI-generated content strains traditional fact-checking and verification systems.
“The sheer speed and scale of AI misinformation makes it almost impossible for fact-checkers to keep up,” Dr Toure said.
As the Iran conflict continues, analysts say online disinformation is growing alongside the real conflict, with AI reshaping how war is represented and monetised.
