Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has begun rolling out a new voice mode for its AI-powered coding assistant, Claude Code, signalling the next phase of hands-free software development.
The feature allows developers to interact with Claude Code via spoken commands rather than typing. The rollout is currently limited to a small percentage of users, with wider availability expected in the coming weeks.
According to reports, eligible users can activate the feature by entering a simple command that enables voice interaction within the coding environment. Once activated, developers can issue instructions verbally- such as requesting code refactoring, generating new functions, navigating files, or debugging errors while the assistant responds conversationally.
Anthropic described the feature as part of its effort to make AI collaboration more natural and efficient. “Voice interaction reduces friction and allows developers to stay in the flow of their work,” the company said in comments cited by authorities. “We’re experimenting with new ways to make human-AI collaboration feel seamless.”
The addition of voice functionality reflects a broader shift across the AI industry toward multimodal systems -tools capable of processing and responding through text, voice, and other input formats.
