Meta has introduced a new artificial intelligence feature on Facebook Marketplace that allows its AI to automatically draft and send replies to messages from potential buyers. The company says the tool is designed to help sellers manage high volumes of inquiries more efficiently and reduce communication delays.
The AI system generates suggested responses based on information already included in a listing, such as item description, price, availability, and pickup location. Sellers can choose to enable the feature on a per-listing basis, preview the AI-generated reply, and make edits before sending. This ensures that sellers maintain full control over the messages their buyers receive.
A Meta spokesperson said:
“Responding to buyer inquiries can take up valuable time. This AI-powered auto-reply tool helps sellers engage quickly with prospective buyers while still giving them control over the content of their messages.”
Industry analysts noted that automating replies could improve the overall Marketplace experience by shortening communication cycles and helping items sell faster. “Sellers who manage many listings often spend hours answering similar questions. AI can take over that initial step, making the process smoother for both buyers and sellers,” an e-commerce analyst said.
The new auto-reply feature is part of a broader set of AI-driven tools being rolled out on Facebook Marketplace. Other updates include AI-assisted listing creation, in which sellers upload photos, and the system suggests titles, descriptions, and prices based on similar items. Marketplace also now offers enhanced seller profiles that summarise a seller’s activity, ratings, and transaction history to help build buyer trust. Additionally, integrated shipping tools allow sellers to create prepaid labels, track shipments, and manage deliveries directly through the platform.
Meta emphasised that the feature is optional. Sellers can continue using manual messaging if they prefer, ensuring flexibility in how they interact with buyers. With millions of listings globally, Facebook Marketplace continues to adopt AI technologies to make buying and selling faster, easier, and more efficient.
Analysts see this move as part of a growing trend in e-commerce, where automation is used to improve efficiency while maintaining transparency and trust between buyers and sellers. By incorporating AI into routine processes, platforms like Facebook Marketplace aim to enhance the user experience while allowing sellers to focus on higher-value activities.
