The Ogun State Government has unveiled a new artificial intelligence–driven teaching and learning platform aimed at significantly improving the quality of education across public schools in the state, as part of broader efforts to modernise the education sector and align it with global digital trends.
The platform, named OgunLearn, was officially launched by Governor Dapo Abiodun at a ceremony in Abeokuta. State officials describe the initiative as a landmark step in leveraging emerging technologies to address persistent challenges in teaching, learning delivery, and educational administration. It is also being positioned as one of the most ambitious state-led applications of artificial intelligence in Nigeria’s public education system.
According to the Ogun State Government, OgunLearn integrates AI-powered tools to deliver structured digital lessons, adaptive learning modules, and real-time academic performance tracking. The platform is designed to personalise learning by analysing students’ progress and identifying areas that require additional support. By doing so, it aims to improve comprehension, reduce learning gaps, and enhance overall academic outcomes, particularly in foundational and examination subjects.
Speaking at the unveiling, Governor Abiodun said the initiative reflects the state’s long-term commitment to education as a driver of economic and social development. He noted that as technology continues to reshape the global economy, it is essential for students to acquire not only academic knowledge but also digital skills that will prepare them for future careers.
The governor emphasised that the AI-driven platform is intended to support teachers rather than replace them. He explained that OgunLearn will provide educators with access to standardised teaching resources, lesson-planning support, assessment tools, and data insights to help them tailor instruction to the needs of individual learners.
“Our teachers remain at the centre of this reform,” the governor said. “What this platform does is equip them with modern tools that make teaching more effective and ensure that every student has access to quality learning resources, regardless of location.”
Officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Education said the platform forms part of a comprehensive education reform agenda focused on digital inclusion, curriculum enhancement, and improved learning outcomes. They explained that OgunLearn is aligned with approved national curricula and will be deployed across public primary and secondary schools in phases.
In addition to student-facing content, the platform includes features designed to support school administrators and policymakers. These include data dashboards that provide insights into attendance, performance trends, and subject-level outcomes, enabling more informed decision-making and targeted interventions at both school and state levels.
Education experts have welcomed the initiative, noting that AI-powered learning platforms can improve student engagement, support differentiated learning, and reduce teachers’ administrative burden. Analysts point out that when combined with effective teacher training and strong oversight, such technologies can help bridge learning gaps and improve education quality at scale.
However, experts also caution that the success of AI-driven education initiatives depends heavily on supporting infrastructure. Reliable electricity, internet connectivity, access to digital devices, and continuous capacity-building for teachers will be critical to ensuring that the platform’s benefits are felt across both urban and rural communities.
The launch of OgunLearn places Ogun State among a small but growing number of subnational governments in Africa exploring the use of artificial intelligence in public service delivery. Observers say the initiative reflects a broader shift by Nigerian states towards embracing digital solutions to address systemic challenges in education.
State officials disclosed that future phases of the project will focus on expanding the platform’s content library, strengthening teacher training programmes, and establishing partnerships to ensure sustainability and continuous improvement. They added that feedback from schools and users will play a key role in refining the system as it is rolled out.
As Nigeria continues to pursue digital transformation across key sectors, Ogun State’s AI-driven learning platform is being closely watched as a test case for how emerging technologies can be responsibly deployed to enhance education, support teachers, and better prepare students for a rapidly evolving world
