The Angolan government has announced plans to pilot the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in selected primary schools as part of efforts to modernize the country’s education system and strengthen digital skills at an early age.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Education, will begin with 10 public primary schools drawn from 10 provinces. The pilot phase will introduce AI-supported learning tools and digital resources into classrooms, alongside basic infrastructure to support their use.
Minister of Education Luísa Grilo said the programme is intended to support teaching and learning, stressing that AI will not replace teachers but rather assist them in delivering lessons more effectively.
According to the ministry, teachers and school administrators involved in the pilot will undergo specialised training before the technology is fully deployed. The training will focus on the practical and ethical use of AI tools in education, as well as classroom integration.
The pilot programme follows a memorandum of understanding signed in 2024 between Angola’s Ministry of Education and the Digital School of the United Arab Emirates, which is providing technical expertise and support for the initiative.
Officials say the use of AI in classrooms will help personalise learning, improve lesson delivery, and expose pupils to digital concepts at an early stage, in line with global trends in education technology.
The ministry said the pilot will be closely monitored and evaluated before any decision is taken on expanding the programme to more schools nationwide.
If successful, the initiative could mark a significant step in Angola’s broader digital transformation agenda and efforts to prepare young learners for a technology-driven economy.
