The Adani Group announced on Tuesday that it will invest $100 billion in building AI-ready data centres across India by 2035, marking one of the largest private-sector commitments to artificial intelligence infrastructure in the world.
The investment will expand Adani’s existing data centre capacity from around 2 gigawatts to an estimated 5 gigawatts, powered primarily by renewable energy. The group said the centres will be designed to handle high-performance computing and advanced AI workloads, supporting both domestic and international clients.
“Nations that master the symmetry between energy and compute will shape the next decade,” said Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group. “India is uniquely positioned to lead. We will not be mere consumers in the AI era-we will be creators, builders, and exporters of intelligence.”
The company said the plan will also spur additional investment of roughly $150 billion across server manufacturing, cloud services, and supporting infrastructure, potentially creating a $250 billion AI ecosystem in India over the next decade.
Adani highlighted partnerships with global technology firms, including Google and Microsoft, for building data centre campuses in cities such as Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Noida, and Pune. Part of the capacity will be reserved for startups, research institutions, and educational programmes that nurture AI talent.
Government officials welcomed the announcement, calling large-scale investments in computing and energy infrastructure essential for India’s global AI ambitions. “This is a significant step toward building sovereign and competitive AI capabilities in India,” said a senior official in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Shares of Adani Enterprises rose nearly 3% on the day following the announcement, reflecting investor optimism about the group’s expansion into technology infrastructure.
The Adani Group said the initiative is expected to be completed by 2035, aligning with India’s broader strategy to position itself as a major global hub for artificial intelligence research, development, and deployment.
