The Lagos State Government, in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and technology firm INNOVIUS, has completed a specialised training programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for 80 young Nigerians, designed to equip participants with practical skills in digital technologies.

The programme, hosted in Lagos, focused on emerging fields of Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics and Machine Learning. It is part of broader efforts by state and industry stakeholders to enhance youth readiness for the digital economy and strengthen Nigeria’s competitive position in global technology markets.

The training sessions took place in key urban centres of Lagos, including Ikeja and Lekki, and brought together participants from diverse educational and professional backgrounds. The curriculum was structured to balance theoretical foundations with hands-on practical workshops, providing participants with exposure to tools and methodologies currently shaping tech industries worldwide.

Officials emphasised the importance of AI literacy and competency development for Nigeria’s youth. A Lagos State Government representative noted that “investing in AI skills for young people is essential if our workforce is to thrive in the digital era and contribute meaningfully to national economic development.”

The NCDMB, whose mandate includes catalysing local capacity building across sectors, reaffirmed its commitment to expanding digital skills training. Its ongoing Digitalisation Initiative aims to equip thousands of young Nigerians with capabilities in AI, cloud computing, data analytics and related technologies as part of a multi-year strategy to bridge skills gaps and boost employability.

Participants reported positive experiences, highlighting the practical relevance of the sessions. One trainee commented that the programme “opened doors to new ways of thinking about technology and career opportunities in AI,” underscoring the value of targeted skills interventions in fast-growing tech domains.

The collaboration reflects a growing trend among government, industry and private partners to elevate digital competency among Nigerian youths, aligning with national efforts to harness technology for economic growth and inclusive development.
