The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) plans to introduce artificial intelligence-enabled technology to simplify online registration for prospective corps members as the scheme modernises its operations.
The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, announced the planned upgrade while interacting with members of the 2026 Batch C Stream One undergoing their orientation course at the Delta State NYSC Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku.
According to a Voice of Nigeria report published on 15 October 2026, the proposed initiative will include additional information and communication technology (ICT) solutions featuring artificial intelligence (AI) to help eligible graduates complete their registration successfully through the NYSC portal.
Nafiu said the initiative aims to align the scheme’s registration process with emerging technology and make its services more efficient.
He also said the NYSC would soon move some operations to technology-driven platforms to improve service delivery.
The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to reduce administrative difficulties in mobilising and registering prospective corps members. The process requires eligible graduates to submit personal information and complete the necessary registration procedures before their deployment for national service.
In May 2026, Nafiu said the scheme was working with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to improve biometric verification and make registration more convenient. The proposed collaboration aimed to reduce delays and let prospective corps members complete more of the process remotely.
The latest announcement signals further efforts to expand digital technology across the scheme’s operations. However, the NYSC has yet to publicly detail the specific AI features it plans to introduce, the implementation timetable, or whether the system will change existing registration requirements.

Nafiu also announced plans to improve the quality of kits provided to corps members from 2027.
Addressing the participants at the Delta State orientation camp, he urged them to use their service year to build meaningful personal and professional relationships. He also encouraged them to acquire practical skills that could help them become self-employed, create jobs and develop a savings culture.
The NYSC Delta State Coordinator, John Kwaghe, reported that 1,697 corps members registered at the camp, while 1,094 were relocated from Lagos State to Delta.
The planned AI-enabled upgrade represents another step in the scheme’s efforts to modernise its administrative processes. Its impact will depend on how the technology is implemented and whether it makes registration more accessible, reliable and efficient for eligible graduates across Nigeria.
